Special requirements for classes during the pandemic: This class is a maximum of 6 students and a photo of your vaccination card, if not already provided with prior classes taken, is required within 24 hours of signing up via email or text. Masks may also be required in class depending on what the current conditions are. Please know that you are welcome to wear a mask during the class if you so wish. This class is the second in a series of three that are designed to introduce students to the process of hand fabricating (constructing) jewelry using techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering, finishing and polishing. SSII focuses on soldering; specifically pick soldering. Students will be making a chain of soldered links, including cutting their own jump rings! Please note: learning to solder, especially pick soldering, is a skill that is essential to success in every area of silversmithing! Prerequisite: Silversmithing I Supplies for this class, which include a simple butane torch, will cost around $100. Kits will be at the front counter for purchase prior to the start of class. Being able to see clearly is essential to your success, so bring any portable lighting and magnification you are accustomed to using (magnifying cheaters, OptiVisor, Telesight) or you can use the cheater glasses that we have in the classroom.
