Stamped Hollow Beads
Learn to pattern, form and solder hollow sterling beads
Service Description
You've seen these beautiful beads before throughout history...gorgeous hollow beads, all hand formed and soldered, strung on long or short chains. Many cultures have crafted hollow beads from Asia and the far east to here in the USA in the Southwest. Depending on the shape, they can be round, saucer, or pillow, or barrel shaped - we'll be learning the skills of creating domed shapes using the dapping tools, disc cutters, metal stamps, Foredom Flexshaft, rolling mill patterning, and then putting the beads together to create hollow forms. Beads are a bit tricky to get 'just right' because your work has to stay lined up while you're soldering - I'll show you how to do it all in this class! Be prepared to dive right in! There's a lot to cover! We'll be using some great Scandinavian themed metal punches to decorate our beads (I had special gnome stamps made for this class!), as well as patterning our metal in the rolling mill, or with hammers. This will be a great class and I'm really looking forward to it! Please bring your torch, butane fuel, 3M polishing cloths, flux and medium solder. The materials and flexshaft bit and bur that you'll need for this class will be sold at the shop and will run around $55 - $65. Silversmithing 3 is a prerequisite for this class.
