Using Gold Scrap for Accents
Prerequisite: Silversmithing 3
- 60 US dollars$60
- Ridgedale Drive
Photos coming soon! Do you have scrap gold at home? Broken necklaces or chains, rings that are too small? In this class we will be melting down your gold scrap and using the rolling mill to turn the "bench ingots" into usable stock that can then be turned into gold accent to add to the jewelry you make. Much like we did in the Silver Scraps class, we'll be using scrap gold instead. While melting the metals down and milling them out utilize basically the same processes, gold needs to be handled a little bit differently and it takes much higher heat than your butane torches to melt down. We will be using the dual fuel set up with oxygen and acetylene, or propane, to melt our metals. If you don't have scrap gold, you will be able to purchase some at the store for the scrap spot price. Please note that the price for any metal depends on the daily market value and it can change daily. You will need to purchase 2 hard charcoal blocks for this class if you have not taken the Silver Scraps class. Please plan on being in class at 4:00pm as we will be jumping right in. There's a lot to cover in the 3 hours we have.
