Service Description

This project will give you another great option for setting larger irregular pieces that don’t lend themselves easily to being set with a bezel. You will get great practice with using the Foredom with sanding discs to shape wire prongs into claw settings that lay down nicely and don’t end up being sweater snaggers when you wear them. You’ll get to use the rolling mill or hammers to texture your metal and you’ll be learning how to form a hanging bail for your piece. You will need an Optivisor to give you magnification for better vision when you get to the part of shaping your prongs. Starting summer 2023 we will not be requiring vaccine records.  Class descriptions may still need updating and we will re-evaluate as conditions warrant but lets hope things continue to improve!  Mask requirements will be based on CDC recommendations.  If you have any symptoms prior to a class, please let us know and we will be happy to reschedule you to a later date! Please note: You may already have the materials for this class left over from other classes you have taken. Please bring your own stone or found object and any 22g sheet and 14g wire you have in your own inventory. You will be expected to purchase a ball bur, snap mandrel and sanding discs, and polishing wheels for this project. Prerequisite: Silversmithing III This class does not have a kit because students can choose between a variety of styles. You will be able to purchase anything you need at Veberod Gem Gallery during class. Typical cost of supplies is around $50-75 for the metal and flexshaft accessories you will use in class.
